Many people looking for careers in human resource management put becoming a corporate soft skill trainer at the top of their list. But while many management training is expensive and there is huge competition for the jobs right now, this is not true of corporate soft skill trainers, and there is a shortage of them at the moment.

What Do Corporate Soft Trainers Do?

A corporate soft skill trainer works either as an employee or as an external training consultant of a business firm. Their key responsibilities include:

  1. Identifying the business requirement in regards to human interaction and interpersonal attributes of associates
  2. Designing the training module and the course content
  3. Developing the training methodology
  4. Implementing the training either through class room workshops or through online courses
  5. Evaluating the progress of the learners using various evaluation techniques.

To become a corporate soft skill trainer, the applicant needs to have completed graduation and have a minimum of two to three years of experience in the field of soft skill training. Further education such as a diploma in training and development is a bonus, but by no means a necessity. Almost all business firms conduct an initial assessment of aptitude for the job, and then ask the applicant to conduct short business soft skill training.

Qualities of a Good Soft Skill Trainer

Corporate soft skill trainer needs to have a good command over the language, excellent pronunciation skills and an upbeat voice, combined with the ability to handle the audience tactfully. They must also be able to understand various behavioral patterns and group dynamics of individuals. A good sense of humor and presence of mind are advantages. The work may demand high social networking skills and self-motivation traits. And the compensation would be either calculated on hourly basis or paid based on each training completed training sessions.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Being a Soft Skill Trainer

Every day presents challenges, and no two days will be identical. Soft skill trainers work long hours, and this can include night shifts if their clients work under global time zones. Various interesting training methods and evaluation techniques are applied to prove that the soft skill training is efficient and cost effective for the business.

On the other hand, soft skill training may require frequent travelling to acquire new businesses, which can be hard for the soft skill trainers with families. And, some trainers find designing and redesigning the course modules according to each business need is time consuming and tiring.

Most management students claim that one must have good experience to be become a soft skill trainer. However, for those who have good pronunciation skills, affinity towards language, and who like interacting with people, this could be an excellent career option and worth looking into in more detail.
